Price, 40 cts. per lb.; per bushel; $ per 100 lbs. ORCHARD GRASS. (Rougli Cocksfoot.) Botanical, Dactylis glomerata. German., Gemeines Knaulgras. French, Dactyle pelotonne. Perennial. Time of flowering, June. Height, 3 feet. This is one of the most valuable and widely known of all the grasses, being of exceptional value in permanent pasture mixtures on account of its earliness and its rapidity of growth. It is ready for graz- ing several days before any other grass, except Mead- ;-owFoxtail. Afterbe- ing mown it produc- es a luxuriantafter- ,math. It is quick to recover from close cropping, " five or six days being suffi- cient to give a good ; It is relish- ed heartily by all kinds of stock, sheep even passing all other grasses to feed upon it. It succeeds on almost any soil, especially in moist, sliady places, and in por- ous subsoils its roots extend to a great depth. It ex- hausts the soil less than many other grasses, and stands di-ought well, keep- ing green and grow- ing when other grasses are dried up. It flowers about the time of Ked Clover and makes a splendid mixture with it to cut in blossom for hay, although it should be cut early or grazed close, as it becomes hard and wiry and loses its nutritious qualities, to a certain extent, when ripe. It should not be sown in mixture with Timothy, for, being three weeks earlier, it becomes pithy if allowed to stan
