The sidesare fiUed with panels of scrolls and bars with foliage, withheavy balustered bars below. They were perhaps made thusheavy to carry leaden wolves brought by sea. Between thepiers and gates are two broad panels of scroll and leaf design, ofa larger scale and distinctly inferior to the gates. The grandioseoverthirow Stretches from pier to pier, and consists of a base of twobands of foliated scrolls, the upper one heavily moulded and witha large mask, and pyramids of scrolls over the panels.
