This name was subsequently changed to St. Rlalo, in honour of the deceased bishop. He died there , 030. There is no doubt of his being a good and able man, but we know of no vulid reason for devoting to him a day of celebration in the reformed calendar. St. Hugo was a native of Uratianopolis, in Burgundy, being born there II H). W'hcn nineteen, he became an inmate of the Char- treuse, near Grenoble, and within ten years was raised to be its grand [irocurator. From that office he retired at the invitation of our king Henry II., who appointed him to the priorship of a fraternity of Car- thusian monks at Witham, in Somersetshire. In 118(5 he was elevated to the bishopric of Lincoln. He died in 1200, and was interred in the catliedral of his see, which he had lived to rebuild from its foundation. Edmund was king of the East Anglesâliis territories including our modern Norfolk, Suffolk, and part of Cambridg
