Elizabeth I AKA Virgin Queen or Good Queen Bess, (1533-1603), Queen of England and Ireland from November 1558 accepts the allegiance of the Bishops at Highgate, London, England. Upon the death of her half-sister, Queen Mary I or Bloody Mary in 1558, Elizabeth succeeded to the throne, and set out to rule by good counsel. One of her first actions as queen was the establishment of an English Protestant church, of which evolved into the Church of England.
