COLLECTIONS FROM THE HROUGH negotiations recently carried on with theBelgian authorities, arrangements have been made toestablish in the Museum an extensive exhibition illus-trative of the ethnic and zoological conditions of theCongo region in Africa. The proposition to establishsuch a permanent exhibition in Xew York City hasappealed so stronglv to King Leopold that he has authorized the govern-ment of the Congo Free State to open a special credit to aid in its for-mation. Two large shipments comprising more than 1500 specimenshave already been received. It is planned to devote two halls of the new wing of the AmericanMuseum, now in process of construction, to African ethnology. TheCongo section will be beautifully decorated with frescoes showing thescenery and with real examples of the flora and fauna of the country, sothat the specimens illustrating human life will appear in surroundingsappropriate to the different tribes they represent.
