Just how high the greenhouse walls should be made will depend upon the uses to which the house is to be put. For geraniums and ordinary bedding plants it need not be more than two feet, but for single-stem chrysanthemum plants, grown in the beds, it should not be less than four feet. Two to three feet would answer for ordinary mums in pots. Cut off the plates at the same angle as the slope of the roof and use a plate 2x6 inches, with the outer edge one inch outside the siding. Use a strip 1x6 inches for the ridge and place 2x3-inch rafters so that they will come under the edges of the sashes. Every third sash should be hinged at the lower end and hand lifters should be provided. The cracks between the sashes should be battened to keep out the rain and pre- vent the loss of heat. If possible, the hot water heater should be sunk below the bottom of the walk. For a temperature of 50 degrees we would run a 2-inch flow upon each plate and connect each flow with two 114-inch returns carried on the sides of the walks. If the walls are more than two feet in height, we would carry the returns on the wall posts and use an additional return upon each wall. Run all pipes downhill and connect the highest point in each flow pipe with the expansion tank. LINCOLN, NEB.
