The largest dosage is in the county where the orchardists to thelargest extent manipulate their own tents, or rather have done so in thepast. Most of the work here as elsewhere is now done by contract. The parts of these counties in which fumigation ispracticed lie immediately adjacent to each other, and the average dosageis about the same. The average is slightly higher than in the formercounty, but some fumigators run very low and others very high in theirestimates. Here the work is often of the most satisfactory sort, and atother times but little good seems to be done. The measurements suggesta very possible explanation of the irregularity of the results very exhaustive study of the killing dose of cyanide gas should beprovided for the coming fumigation season, and the desirability of avery close inspection of fumigation operations is also evident.
