Prayfor the common fatherland. 04 ELGIN PAST AND PRESENT Since 1900 the sarcophagus tomb with recumbent figure of a knightin armour—the tomb of William de la Hay—has been transferred tothis aisle for preservation. Formerly it stood in the open betweenSt Marys Aisle and the south transept. On the knights breastplateare arms :—Three escutcheons (Hay). On the dexter side of thebevelled edge of the sarcophagus is this inscription in one longline in Gothic letters, the latter part being illegible :—fylc facettotIls be it iiag ijuotra bits ire lorijlog qui obiit tout fctc meBbtcebxin.
