The King Vulture, Sarcoramphus papa, second in sizeonly to a condor, is the most colorful and well groomed of scavengers.
The king vulture's beak is razor sharp and extremely powerful. King vultures have a wingspan of four feet and can soar effortlessly for hours on thermal air currents. Their habitat is mainly the dense tropical forests of Brazil and Venezula. They are not presently considered threatened. This one is a prized resident in a Louisiana zoo.
