His father was one of the nine sons ofGeorge Boone and Mary, his wife, wlio emigratedto America with their family of eleven children, andarrived in Philadelphia Oct. 10,1717. They were natives of Brad-wich, near the city of Exeter inDevonshire, Eng., and soon afterhe landed in America, GeorgeBoone, the grandfather of DanielBoone, purchased a large tract ofland in what is now Berks , whicli he settled and namedExeter. He subsequently pur-chased other, tracts of land situ-ated in Maryland and Virginia;among them the ground uponwhich Georgetown, District ofColumbia, now stands, whichplace he laid out and namedafter himself.
