Y. The Greenwich Tramways Company, of Port Chester, N. Y.,recently received from the J. G. Brill Company five Narragan-sett cars which will be operated on lines traversing one of thefinest suburban districts in the vicinity of New York and con-nect with trolley systems from other points in West ChesterCounty. The town of Port Chester has a number of largemanufacturing interests, and the Byram River, which is theboundary between New York and Connecticut, is navigable upto the town, which is about 2 miles from the coast of LongIsland Sound. Several fine bathing beaches are reached by thelines, and the new cars will be much appreciated by the crowdswhich go to the beaches every fine day through the ONE OF THE NEW OPEN CARS USED BY THE GREENWICHTRAMWAY COMPANY The cars measure 34 ft. ^ in. over the crown pieces and 8 ins. over the posts at belt. The eight seats in the central partof the car have reversible backs and the four bulkhead seatshave stationary backs. Spring roller curtains are furnished forthe side openings. The seats and backs are of ash strips and theceilings are of decorated birch. What is practically a doublestep, without the disadvantages of that form of construction, isprovided by substituting Z-irons for the usual thick timber sills,the upper step being formed by the middle web which keeps itwithin the line of the posts and the width over all within therestricted limits. A great amount of vertical strength is pro-duced by the manner of fastening the side posts. A peculiarlyformed pocket is bolted to the side of the sill and holds the endof the post, while on top of this is placed the ordinary round-corner seat-end panel. A J^-
