Solar lentigo. Side view of a 46-year-old man with a solar lentigo (pigmented patch) on his cheek near his left eye. This flat brown patch of discolouration is caused by excessive production of the skin pigment melanin. Lentigo spots are thought to be caused by exposure to sunlight. They are benign, but sometimes they can develop into a slow-growing form of skin cancer. For close-up views of this solar lentigo, see images C025/8070 and C025/8072.
