He was born in Fremont. Ohio, in 1865,a son of John and Bridget Hall, who were na-tives of Ireland. In early life the father cameto the United States, establishing his home inFremont, where he followed the stone-masonstrade until his death. Hugh Hall was the onlychild of their marriage, but the mother had fivechildren by a previous marriage. In early life Mr. Hall was placed in convent at Cleveland. Ohio, where heremained until eleven years of age. He thenreturned to Fremont and afterward attended. He then made his way west-ward to Kansas, where lie pre-empted one hun-dred and sixty acres of land, spending eightmonths in that state in order to gain his titleto the property. In 1881 he came to Litchfieldand aided in the building of Rhodes* OperaHouse, where a few years later he became man-ager and held that position for several years,lie also did an advertising business and for lie-past sixteen years has had the bill-postingprivileges of the town. For the past threeyears he has conducted the largest distinct cigarand tobacco emporium in Litchfield, known asthe Buzzards Roost, and of this he is -nilproprietor, having a profitable business, whichhe has developed to extensive proportions.
