Culture âSow as early in the spring as weather and soil con- ditions permit in drills 2 feet apart and cover \ inch deep in light soil, less in heavy clay. Thin out to stand 4 to 6 inches apart in the rows. The quality of the roots is improved by leaving them in the ground over winter for spring use. Secure enough in pits or cellars in the fall for immediate needs. One ounce will SOW 200 feet of drill, 5 to 6 lbs. for an acre. Large Sugar, or Hollow Crown. (See cut.) This is the best and mo.^t productive variety and is largely grown both in the home garden and for market. The roots, which are creamy white, grow 10 to 12 inches long, and are smooth, tender, sweet and are of excellent flavor.
