Celery requires much nitrogen and themixed fertilizer applied before planting, or afterwardsas a side-dressing, should contain not less that 4 percent of this element. There should also be an abundanceof potash and phosphoric acid. A fertilizer containing4 per cent of nitrogen, 8 iier cent phosphoric acid and10 per cent potash shoultl meet the requirements ofthis crop in all soils, when apjilied in sufficient quantity. Some growers have found it highly desirable to applynitrate of soda or complete fertilizer as side-dressingsafter the crop is well started. These applications mayvary from 100 to 200 pounds to the acre and should bemade at intervals of about three weeks. Starting the plants.
