Life on the river, the 'drinks and snacks' boat tied up to a houseboat, Chong Khneas, Siem Reap River, Cambodia
In Cambodia, during the monsoon season, the water levels on Tonle Sap Lake rise dramatically. The people of the floating villages that reside on the Lake during the dry season migrate inland to the rivers in their boats. One of the major floating villages during monsoon season is at Chong Khneas on the Siem Reap River. The boats are often painted gaily with turquoise being a favorite shade. The community infrastructure migrates along with them, including schools, churches, water purification plants, food and market supplies.
