Some years the crops have been verylarge and almost uniformly he has received fairprices for his produce, so that the investment hasjustified his judgment in its purchase. At the time of settling in the valley Mr. Maynwas a pioneer. The ranches were large andowned by comparatively few men, but during thepast twenty-five years a great change has beenmade, the ranches have been divided into smallfarms operated by owners or lessees, and thedevelopment of the country has been propor-tionately great. In thework of improvement Mr. Mayn has been a con-tributor and promoter, and his public spirit isrecognized by all. Politically he votes with theRepublican party and is interested in such mat-ters, but always has refused to hold office. Manyyears after coming to this country he returned toGermany in 1904 and for a year visited amongthe friends of childhood, renewing the associ-ations of youth with such of his friends andkindred as remained in his native spot.
