Scots pine tree at Tulloch Grue in Rothiemurchus near Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park Scotland

Editorial use only. A lone Scots pine tree as a remnant of the old Caledonian forest that used to cover large tracts of the Scottish Highlands. This particular tree is prominent on an accessible view point called Tulloch Grue in Rothiemurchus near Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park in Speyside. The snow clad Cairngorm Mountains can be seen in the background. The gap in the mountain range is the famous Lairig Ghru used for centuries as a rough path from Speyside across to Braemar and Deeside.
