Llanthony Priory Vale of Ewyas Gwent Wales


Llanthony Priory was one of the earliest houses of Augustinian Monks to be founded in Britain and is one of only a handful in Wales It is chiefly famous today for its wild and beautiful setting far up the Vale of Ewyas in the Black Mountains The original 11th century church was modified and re organised as a priory in 1118 and dedicated to John the Baptist The original church no longer survives The present ruin is the remains of the church built between 1183 and 1230
