A beautiful woodcut from 1493 of the town of Nicea (now Iznik) in Turkey. This illustration comes from the Nuremberg Chronicle, which is an enyclodpedia of world events, mythology and christian history. This extra-ordinary work was one of the earliest books ever printed and the first to successfully integrate text and images.
