Berlin-Moabit,Westhafen,West Harbour, UNITANK tank farm business for the storage and product handling of mineral oil products supplies airports & filling stations. Westhafen harbor - Planning for the large port in Berlin started early in 1900 and construction of the Westhafen began in 1914, but was delayed By WW1. The planning was overseen by city's architect for civil engineering, Friedrich Krause and the layout of the facilities and the façade designs were by architects Wolffenstein and Lorenz. Operations commenced in 1923. The administration building, warehouses and the granary are grouped around the central dock with the customs house on the western edge of the port. The administration building has a tapering central tower with a viewing gallery, lantern and pyramid roof and serves as a landmark for incoming ships. The building facades are of purplish-brown bricks with iron oxide content. BEHALA (Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhaus AG) was founded in 1923 to operate the Westhafenand the port is still used for shipping but part of the warehouses are no longer required and the granary is now used to house the newspaper division of the Staatsbibliothek Preußischer Kulturbesitz, the Prussian state library collections
