It is rare, indeed,that mechanical skill and business ability are united in one and thesame individual and it was to this exceptional combination of talentsthat IMr. Chisholm owed his more than splendid success. A Scotch-man by birth and nature, and loving the poems of his nations bardwith an ardor that only a Scot can fciO, he became as thorough an. Iron Ore Docks of the Present American citizen as if he had drawn his inspiration from PlymouthRock, and he performed his civic duties with an ever-serene confi-dence in the merit of our institutions. Although the auspicious beginning in the manufacture of ironwas made under the direction of Mr. Chisholm, it was not until oreshipments were started from the Lake Superior regions that the in-dustry began to assume large proportions. It was in 1846 thatCleveland parties appeared on the scene and opened the way for theimmense business that has grown up between that region and thiscity. Dr. J.
