Inhaler use during lung function testing. Patient undergoing a type of test known as spirometry to assess the functioning of the lungs. Here, an inhaler (containing salbutamol) is being used with a spacer as part of reversibility testing. This is where the patient takes a spirometry test, followed by inhaling a bronchodilator drug to widen the airways, followed by another test to see how effective the drug has been. Spirometry is an important tool used for assessing conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive airway diseases (COAD) such as bronchitis and emphysema, also collectively known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Photographed in the UK.
