Surf and cruises, two of the most repeated words on the beaches of Waikiki Beach. O'ahu. Hawaii. Surfer on the famous Waikiki Beach. United States, Hawaii, Oahu island, Waikiki beach, statue of prince Kuhio. Kalakaua Avenue. O'ahu. Hawaii. Located on the south shore of Honolulu, the world-famous neighborhood of Waikiki was once a playground for Hawaiian royalty. Known in Hawaiian as "spouting waters," Waikiki was introduced to the world when its first hotel, the Moana Surfrider, was built on its shores in 1901. Boat cruises around Hawaii give visitors the chance to tour more than the one or two islands they'd normally visit on a typical Hawaiian vacation. The state of Hawaii consists of more than 100 islands and islets, although just seven are populated: Maui, Oahu, Hawaii -- often called The Big Island to avoid confusion with the state, Lanai, Molokai, Kauai, and Ni'ihau.
