The Baptists of Eastern North Carolina and Virginia felt the needof establishing a female school possessing all appliancesessential to a thorough and liberal education. They accord-ingly erected a beautiful and commodious brick building,four stories high, and furnished it with an elegance andliberality which enabled it at once to take rank with thebest schools in the South. This rank it still maintains; andafter a successful course of fifty years, during whichtime it has graduated nearly three hundred young ladiesand contributed to the education of a much larger number,it is still the exclusive and unincumbered property of theBaptist denomination. The Institute has peculiar claims onthe patronage of Baptists. It offers first class scholarshipupon reasonable terms.
