gun points and dry moat at the drop redoubt fort in Dover
The Napoleonic fortress, the drop redoubt fort, is located on the western heights nature trail in Dover, Kent. Constructed in 1700 - 1800s, this fort housed hundreds of soldiers that could be quickly deployed to the coast via the 'grand shaft' (a three tier staircase in a cylindrical building). The area has now become a site of historical and natural interest.
