27/10/16 As you walk towards the rather nondescript pub you get no hint of the spooky surprise awaiting you when you cross the threshold…unless of course, you happen to glimpse the half-buried skeleton digging its way out of the earth in the nearby flower bed. But open the door to the 180-year-old pub and you’re greeted by a life-size corpse bride and groom, rictus grins stretched across their skulls, screeching with metallic laughter . And that’s just the porch - step inside the appropriately called Hanging Gate pub and you enter into a fantastic Halloween-themed house of horrors. And each room in the pub and restaurant, set on the edge of the Peak District, has a different scary style. There’s the ‘killer clown’ bar, with close to 20 of the white-faced, orange-haired creatures hanging from the rafters, tucked away in corners, and peering from the walls. It’s the stuff of nightmares for anyone suffering from coulrophobia! For those hardy souls, brave enough to eat in the pub, they could find themselves sat in the ‘giant spiders’ room, with hundreds of the hairy-legged minibeasts scuttling across the walls and windowsills. Or perhaps they’ll choose the ‘pumpkin’ room, with giant eery orange faces peering at them from the ceiling and walls. Wherever they go, there is no escaping the yards and yards of spiders’ webs covering every square inch of the interior. It’s almost enough to put you off your pint and Sunday roast. But pub landlord, 42-year-old Mark Thomas said this year has been the best ever for October bookings, with everyone wanting to experience for themselves the thrill of dining with the ghouls and creepy creatures. “We put the decorations up at the end of September and we’ve been serving arou
