An early 19th century illustration of the Oblique-Leaved Begonia aka Begonia nitidia was brought from Jamaica by Sir Joseph Banks. Regarded as a fine plant then, it played an important part in the breeding of the modern small-flowered bedding begonias, Begonis semperflorens. This artwork for Robert John Thornton's "The Temple of Flora" in 1807, was printed, for the publisher, by T. Bensley, London, England.
