Police manned the busy Trafalgar Square junction of Cockspur Street, Whitehall, The Mall, the Strand and Charing Cross road, offering friendly advice and cautions to motorists and cyclists. Operation Safeway's objective is to reduce cyclists deaths on the roads of London by educating all road users on making cycling safer. The operation was mounted following the deaths of several cyclists on the capitals's roads in just a few weeks, and follows a "die-in" protest where over a thousand cyclists protested outside Transport For London's headquarters, demanding a safer cycling environment.
