FIRST Lieutenant John W. Clark, regimental quartermaster of the Sixth VermontInfantry, was in command of a squad of convalescents defending a wagon-train. On the 28th of July, 1863, while near Warrenton, Va., the train was at-tacked by a rebel cavalry force greatly outnumbering Clarks squad. With a navysix-shooter, a breech-loading rifle and the gallant support of his convalescents, hemade a bold stand and beat off the rebels.
