I left Toronto on Monday, the 28th ofOctober, soon after eight oclock in themorning, after a most pleasant visit of tendays at Upper Canada College, I arrivedat Ottawa about five oclock, and foundSir Sandford Fleming waiting at the stationto receive me. I drove with him to hisresidence, Winterholm, in Chapel Street,where I found myself in most comfortablequarters at his hospitable house. The next day I called with Sir Sandford. I after-wards went over the House of the DominionParliament with Sir Sandford is indeed an imposing and superbpile of buildings. On the other side ofthe Ottawa River is the township of Hull,a suburb of Ottawa, where the disastrousfire commenced which did such terribledamage to the city a year or two I visited, and I was not surprised tohear of the tremendous destruction thisfire caused, on seeing the large number oftimber-yards stored with timber and otherinflammable material, with which the town-ship of Hull abounds.
