A garrison cap,for enlisted personnel of the Cent-gardes Striped red and blue cloth with yellow trim,embroidered "N" beneath a crown. Tassel of red and gold spun yarn. Black leather lining with buttoned chin straps. Minor marks of wear and age. The Cent-gardes remind of a bodyguard of nobles established in 1474 by Louis XI. In 1727 this unit was disbanded by Louis XV.
