Hanging corn for drying outside a house in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan

Until about 1950, corn was a popular product for the farmers in Oshino Village as the village is unsuitable for rice production because of its cold climate. Because of that, hanging corn cobs outside the house became one of seasonal traditions there. The dried corn was then ground into flour to make dumplings and other winter dishes.
