The pressure ofthe air when turned on at one cylinder puts the startingmechanism into operation and at the same time puts the cylin-der out of service as a gas engine. When the engine is up to speed, turning off the air puts thegas engine into coinmission without changing a valve, cam orlever. The Sargent engine is built by the Wellman-Scaver-MorganCompany, of Cleveland. Suction Qas Producers. Suction gas-producer plants are being more and more in-troduced with great success in this country on account of theirsimple working and great economy in running and maintainingexpenses. They are used in connection with gas engines for a!l kind. .,f indii-lrirs .-md -Imps, .\. illuminating gas in connection with a gas engine, is now usinga gas producer. The plant, which was built by Dr. OskarNagel, of New York City, is working according to the guaran-tee given with the plant, that is, the development of i B. H. from Ij poiuids of anthracite (pta) on full load, r i-,?pounds on three-fourths load, and I,<? pounds on one-half plant has a capacity of 20 hp., and consists of a hand-blower, producer with evaporator on top of same, and ascrubber, which is shown on the cut. The overflow water potwhich belongs to the plant is in the pit between the producerand the scrubber, and a .small equalizing tank is connected onthe floor below to the engine, so as to connect the scrubberwith the engine. By the sucking action of the engine the air is drawn overthe surface of hot-water in a water-jacket and saturated withsteam, and this saturated mixture of steam and air is drawnthrough the fuel, whereby the producer gas is generated.
