Acute cholecystitis
Gross specimen of an opened gallbladder with acute cholecystitis. Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder. The most common cause of acute cholecystitis is gallstones. The patient presents with acute abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. The mucosa of this gallbladder appears inflamed, congested and shows patchy greenish-yellow exudate forming pseudomembranes over necrotic areas.
