Gwaliau are open-fronted 'dens' where quarrymen split & trimmed blocks of slate to produce roofing slates using wooden hammers, & metal chisels, blades & knives. Finished slates were lowered in wagons from the different working levels to the railway yard using the table incline built 1873-77 & in use 1875-1930s. Part of the Vivian Quarry Trails in the Padarn Country Park. The Dinorwig Slate Quarry Mountain Landscape is part of The Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales which became the UK's 32nd UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 July 2021.
