NANGARHAR, Afghanistan (Jan. 21, 2010) - 100121-A-3421S-081: SHINWAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan Border Police 6th Kandak commander, Colonel Niazy and Georgia Army National Guard’s 1st Squadron, 108th Cavalry Regiment, Task Force Mountain Warrior commander, Lieutenant Colonel Russell V. Simmons prepare to broadcast a message to the people in the Shinwar district’s new radio station. The message was a follow-up to an Anti-Taliban Shiwari Pact jirga at the Kandak headquarters. The radio station is a gift to the people of that region and part of a media information initiative sponsored by the International Security Assistance Force’s [ISAF] counterinsurgency program. “We appreciate the commitment the people of Shinwar and the Shinwari tribes have given to bring stability to this area,” Simmons said in one of the first broadcasts to the people of Afghanistan.
