The acid is, little by little, added tothe iron, through the funnel-tube 5, so that the evolution of thegas and its passage through the fluids are slow. The solutionin c is prepared by adding to an aqueous solution of cadmiumsulphate (1:100) so much of ammonium hydrate as is re-quired to redissolve the precipitate, formed upon the first addi-tion of the alkaline hydrate. The occurrence of a yellow precipitate in the cadmium so-lution would indicate suljpliur^ and of a black one in the argen-tic solution, arsenic or phosphorus.
