Bromeliad (Puya aequatorialis). This plant is found only in Ecuador. Its natural habitats are tropical or subtropical dry forests and shrubland. It is currently (as of 2008) in the category of least concern on the World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red List, but prior to 1997 it was listed as an endangered species due to habitat loss by fire.
