Original very clear, charming early 1900's Edwardian / Titanic era postcard of 2 female shop assistants / proprietors outside the shopfront of the Ostrich Feather Emporium. Local characters. A sign on the shop door says "feathers curled while you wait", The shop sells ostrich feathers to adorn the elaborate large hats of fashionable ladies. Many ostrich feathers and a model ostrich shop fitting are displayed in the window. The fashion for hat feathers endangered some bird species and led to the setting up of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) in Britain - circa 1911,
Dated to circa 1911 as the lady's hair is styled to support wide brimmed hats which declined in popularity after 1911. The shallow scooped neckline is also an indicator of the year transitioning from high-necked blouses. On the reverse is written " Dad calls this "The Double Dolls".
