The numerical preponderance of the works of Philodemusled some people to believe that this had been the library of thatphilosopher. Professor Comparetti has thrown out a conjecturekf. Comparetti and de Petra. op. cit.) that the library was collectedby Lucius Piso Caesoninus (see Regtone sotterrata dal Vesuvio,Naples, 1*79, p. 159 sq.), but this conjecture has not found manysupponers.
