Following initial ground instruction of mathematics, navigation, and the principles of flying, new recruits learnt the basics of how to fly in aircraft such as the de Havilland Tiger Moth and flew their first solo flight. Final tests and examinations completed advanced training. If successful the pupil received his flying brevet or Pilot's Wings, these three new pilots were isssued with their full flying kit in July 1940, just in time for the Battle of Britain.
