Soldiers returning as President sails. On December 4, 1918, 2nd Lt. Geo. H. Lyon captured a photograph of the White Star Liner, Lapland, carrying 2,000 American soldiers who had been training in England. The soldiers had arrived via the North River, just ten minutes before the ship was supposed to sail. The crew of the George Washington is seen cheering the homecoming soldiers.
