The work of the taxidermist is in a way more difficult than that of the sculptor,that is, he must not only make a model of the animal in life-like pose, hut mustthen with great art fit over this model the unyielding skin of the animal colored, photographic transparency of the locality where the birds weretaken. As a variant of this, Mr. Frank C. Baker when at the ChicagoAcademy of Science used greatly enlarged photographic curved back-grounds for the insects of the vicinity of Chicago.
