Mariner 10 photograph of the region near Mercury's south pole. The pole is located on the edge of the image at bottom right. The large impact crater comprising two concentric circular rings (upper right) is the crater Bach. Mariner 10 was the first spaceprobe to visit the planet, making three separate encounters during 1974-5.
