Concentration against the privatization of the cleaning service in the hospital, on the front line during the coronavirus pandemic, CCOO Sanidad Madrid denounced that the Health Department of the Community of Madrid "took advantage of the coronavirus health crisis to privatize services in hospitals in the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS) ». On June 3, SERMAS published the call for tenders for comprehensive cleaning services for its Specialized Care centers (hospitals). Lot 7, according to the bidding specifications, includes the outsourcing for the cleaning of 33, square meters of the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital, of which 87 percent are in critical or semi-critical sanitary areas. CCOO claims the resignation of the heads of the hospital center. The hospital has a total of 553 professionals assigned to the Cleaning Service, 531 cleaners (including 97 who were hired to reinforce the service during the pandemic) and 22 government officials. They deal with the cleaning of 158,831 useful square meters of the different dependencies and centers attached to the hospital, including critical areas (operating rooms, ICUs, Emergencies, ...) and areas of external consultations, hospitalization and common transit areas. The area for which they report that they want to start outsourcing and privatizing occupies 20% of the total surface of the center. Within this area there are 28,928 square meters of critical and semi-critical areas, which represent 87% of the total that they want to commission to awarded external cleaning companies. CCOO insists that in addition to the privatization maneuver, there is a breach by the SERMAS General Directorate of Human Resources and the hospital manager, Joseba Barroeta, who promised - Barroeta in writing - to hire 54 professionals and denied any attempt to privatization. In recent years, in the Cleaning Service “the workforce has been reduced for various reasons, such as retirement, and staff has not been replenished. I
