Marathon tumuli or tumulus, the tomb that ancient Athenians built to honour goddess Athena for her help on defeating the Persians in Marathon Battle. Beneath the tomb are the remains of the 192 Athenian soldiers who died in the battle of Marathon, defending Athens, Greece and changing the course of history for the Western civilization. Today this is the starting point of the original classical Marathon of 42 kms of Athens, Greece.
