There are manyother as suitable materialsas wood and common gran-ite. White marble is evergood in a garden when ofmoderate bulk, and of limitalso in the number of pieces shown. As the firstqualification is conformed to in a sun-dial, we needonly add that white marble is ever good for a dialpedestal if of careful and classic design. The coloredmarbles of many lands afford a wonderful choice;the least eccentric of these make the finest pedestals,nor should varied marbles be seen in one pedestal, 206.
