The owls fight for their turf STAINES MOOR, ENGLAND ACTION PACKED images taken November 29th 2023 show short eared owls hovering in an extraordinary face-off for hunting territory. Images show two short eared owls having a standoff in mid air as they compete for a hunting ground one is victorious in scaring off the other and carries away a field mouse. The short-eared owl is a widespread grassland species in the family Strigidae. Owls belonging to genus Asio are known as the eared owls, as they have tufts of feathers resembling mammalian ears. These "ear" tufts may or may not be visible. These fearsome owls were captured by photographer Lee Tilley (47) from London England. Lee captured the owls hunting in Staines Moor, England on his Canon r6 and sigma 150-600. ?I got to watch as two short eared owls confronted each other in territorial disputes flying up and dancing in the sky in shows of dominance,? said Lee. ?It's unusual to catch them in good light fighting each other like this. ?It's awesome to see owls anytime and even better to see such natural dominating behaviour whilst the sun sets. It's just amazing. ?The whole sequence is equally amazing but the final shot of them face to face, wings spread as the sunset lights of their feathers is ENDS
