The main trackway on Bardsey Island passes the buttressed, protective farmyard wall of Cristin, one of the 'model farms' built on Bardsey Island 1870-75 by Lord Newborough. Cristin is home to the Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory founded 1953. Artist & writer Brenda Chamberlain lived on Bardsey 1947-61, mainly in Carreg farmhouse; she described her experiences in the book Tide-race published in 1962.
